Aurora
an installment of what happens to my photos when i die?
11/12/25
I'm still shook that I've gotten to see the northern lights in my own yard three times! These photos are all from Wednesday night, 11/12/25. The aurora was apparently even better on Tuesday but Michigan had 100% cloud cover.
But I was prepared with all my equipment on Wednesday and Lady Aurora did not disappoint.
I used my wide angle lens on my a6500, with the wide open aperture and long-ish shutter speeds of anywhere from 2 seconds to 10 seconds, depending on how bright the lights were. I only used ISO 200 but I feel like they came out much noisier than I expected at that level. Oh well.
I was outside from about 9pm to midnight, with the best of the shots coming around 10pm-11pm. I heard there was another round of lights at 1am but I was already asleep.
The very first picture of the night. I love when you can see it starting on the horizon.
No aurora in this picture but I love how it turned out. It's not even a black and white photo.
